Gov Ganduje slashes salaries of political office holders by 50%

Governor Ganduje has reduced the salaries of political office holders by 50% in Kano state.

After governor Fayemi of Ekiti, it is reported that governor Ganduje is the second governor to have taken such decision. The Kano state governor said, “Due to shortfall in the federation account and collapse in the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) because of COVID-19 challenges, all political officeholders in Kano State are to receive halfsalaries with effect from May.

He stated: “There is also a serious setback  in the IGR, due to COVID-19 pandemic challenges. Whereas almost all companies in the state are no longer in operation due to lockdown. He said the decision affects the governor, deputy governor and all public office holders in the state. It also affects local government chairmen, their deputies, councillors, advisers and other functionaries.
