A fuel tanker carrying a hidden drug compartment has been intercepted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The 20,000-litre tanker contained 2,145kg of cannabis concealed behind a specially built false compartment.
NDLEA operatives intercepted the vehicle on the Akoko/Lokoja Expressway in Ondo State on September 4, 2026.
The driver allegedly refused to stop when officers flagged down the tanker marked MKA 960 XC.
He later abandoned the vehicle at a church in Ugbe Akoko before fleeing into the bush.
A search uncovered 165 bags of cannabis hidden alongside the legitimate fuel cargo.
The fuel was reportedly being transported to Jos, Plateau State, when the operation took place.
The agency said the tanker had reportedly escaped arrest during previous attempts.
The operation was part of a wider crackdown across nine states targeting illegal drugs.
At Lagos airport, officers seized 966,200 Tramadol 225mg tablets worth over N1.1 billion.
The tablets were hidden among thrift trousers inside a 21-carton shipment from Pakistan.
Another 57.80kg of Loud cannabis was found inside cartons of disposable hand gloves from Singapore.
At Tincan Port, 598.08kg of cannabis-infused cookies and gummies were also seized.
In Kaduna, officers recovered 1,179kg of skunk from a cement truck along the Zaria-Kano Expressway.
Kogi officers also arrested three suspects with 636kg of cannabis hidden inside chicken manure.
The NDLEA reported further drug seizures and arrests in Adamawa and Taraba states.
NDLEA Chairman Mohamed Marwa urged officers to maintain intelligence-led operations against traffickers.
Marwa warned traffickers hiding behind legitimate businesses that the agency would continue tracking them.
The latest NDLEA cannabis seizure adds to the agency’s wider efforts against drug trafficking nationwide.
