Fubara Seeks Peace With Wike Amid Rivers Political Crisis

The political tension in Rivers State may be taking a positive turn as Governor Siminalayi Fubara has reportedly taken steps toward reconciliation with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

According to Lere Olayinka, the media aide to Wike, the governor held a closed-door meeting with his former political mentor last week.

While Olayinka declined to reveal specific details of the conversation, sources close to the development disclosed that the meeting was centered on peace and forgiveness.

This move followed Fubara’s earlier meeting with President Bola Tinubu in London, where urgent directives were reportedly issued regarding the Rivers political crisis.

During that meeting, President Tinubu was said to have instructed Fubara to reach out to all concerned parties back home and resolve the rift.

A source familiar with the event confirmed that, “Fubara was brought to the minister’s house on Friday, 18 April.

He prostrated for Wike while holding his legs and calling him, ‘My Oga’.”

The source added that the governor remained at Wike’s Abuja residence until the early hours of the following day.

Furthermore, the reconciliation was not done in isolation.

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State and former Governor Olusegun Osoba reportedly accompanied Fubara to the meeting, underscoring the gravity of the political situation and the significance of restoring peace.

The feud between both political leaders has caused serious division within the state, leading to public concern and political uncertainty.

However, this new step indicates that both parties may be ready to move forward for the sake of governance and progress.

Moreover, it was revealed that part of the conditions laid before Fubara during the visit included addressing his supporters and elder statesmen in Rivers State.

“He must assemble his supporters in Rivers, especially the elders, and tell them the ‘truth’ about his feud with Wike,” the source emphasized.

Meanwhile, as seen in recent weeks, concerns about a possible breakdown in leadership had escalated following reports that Fubara and several elected officials were suspended from office by President Tinubu.

Therefore, this meeting may be the beginning of a peaceful resolution that paves the way for focused leadership.
