Former Head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Police Force in Nigeria and member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police bids farewell to the Response Team in a statement after being promoted as the Commission of Police,March 2023.
In his statement ,the former head , who has led the IRT over the past two years leaves the team with heart full of positive emotion accompanying with grief and sorrow which will not be forgotten.
He however gave appraisal to the team despite the cancellation of all IRT bases across the country and reduction in personnel, hailing them for their hardwork and successes. 
Furthermore, he thanked God Almighty and the IGP for giving him the chance to share his opinion towards the team. In addition to his gratitude he thanked his soulmate/wife, Mrs Funmilola Disu, children, ACP Adamu, for their tremendous support during his tenure as the IRT boss.
The statement reads; “Over the past two years, it has been a privilege to lead the officers and men of the FIB Intelligence Response Team (IRT). Today, I leave IRT with a heart full of positive emotions fueled by the Success of Redirection, accomplishments, and friendships that have been created and solidified with its accompanying compassion, grief and sorrow which would not be forgotten. Countless times, members of the team have surpassed my expectations, resulting in tremendous successes. Despite the cancellation of all IRT bases across the country and a drastic reduction in personnel, we did our best and accomplished remarkable arms recoveries and noteworthy feats.”
“I will be eternally grateful to God Almighty and the IGP for allowing me to contribute my share to this wonderful TEAM.I would be negligent if I did not emphasize the quantity of support my family and friends have given me throughout my career. My wife and our children were compelled to experience the emotional roller coaster caused by squad’s initial difficulties.Thank you, Funmilola, for always being there for me.I will also acknowledge my amazing deputy, Acp Muazu Adamu.”

On August 2, 2021, Usman Alkali Baba, the inspector-general of police (2022), appointed Disu as the new head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), a position previously held by Abba Kyari.
Tunji Disu was however promoted to the rank of Commissioner of Police in March 2023 by the Nigerian Police Service Commission.
