Former Bristol City striker Marvin Brown has died at the age of 42, leaving fans and former teammates heartbroken.
His death on Monday followed a long and courageous fight against terminal cancer, marking a sad end to the life of one of the club’s brightest youth talents.
According to family sources, Brown passed away at home after being moved to end-of-life care over the weekend.
He was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, a rare cancer of the bile duct, after years of battling several serious health conditions.
Brown had previously been treated for colon cancer in 2022 and lived with ulcerative colitis and sclerosing cholangitis, a rare liver disease.
His death, though expected due to the advanced stage of his illness, still came as a shock to the football community.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Bristol City confirmed the heartbreaking news, writing:
“We were saddened to hear of the passing of Marvin Brown aged 42. Marvin joined the Bristol City Academy at the age of eight and went on to become the club’s youngest player, aged just 16 years and 71 days in September 1999.
While at the club, Marvin featured for England Under-16s and Under-17s before moving on to Forest Green Rovers in 2004.”
Brown’s older brother, Aaron, expressed deep grief on Instagram, describing his sibling as a “kind, calm, ambitious, and thoughtful soul.”

“Today I said goodbye to my little brother and my best friend, Marvin. Your fight is finally over, and while I find some peace knowing you’re no longer in pain, my heart is shattered without you here,” he wrote.
Aaron added that his brother had a “rare gift of making people feel seen, cared for, and loved,” adding that his laughter and wit would be sorely missed.
Moreover, tributes have poured in from fans, former players, and clubs across England.
Many remembered Brown not just for his talent but for his humility and quiet strength both on and off the pitch.
Brown began his football journey with Bristol City’s academy and made headlines when he became the club’s youngest-ever player, debuting at just 16 years and 71 days old.
His early promise earned him call-ups to England’s Under-16 and Under-17 teams, where he was widely regarded as one of the country’s most promising young forwards at the time.
After leaving Bristol City in 2004, Brown went on to play for several lower-league and non-league teams, including Forest Green Rovers, Tamworth, Yeovil Town, Weston-super-Mare, Salisbury City, and Truro City before retiring in 2012.
Although his professional career was relatively short, his early achievements remain a source of pride for Bristol City fans who followed his journey from academy prospect to first-team player.
Meanwhile, friends close to the family said arrangements are being made for a private funeral service.
