Africa’s richest woman, Folorunsho Alakija’s 72-year old husband, Modupe, has been suspended at the Ikoyi Club for not behaving well.
Modupe Alakija is unfortunately trending in the news for the wrong reasons. He was accused of allegedly fighting with a fellow member at the prestigious Ikoyi Club 1938. And has been suspended for one year.
The suspension notice was posted on the club’s notice board and signed by the secretary, Bamidele Ibironke.
According to what was posted on the notice board: “The above named member of the Club is hereby placed on a one (1) year suspension from the Club for physically assaulting and abusing a fellow member, conduct injurious to the interest of the Club, thereby violating Rule S(C)of the Club’s Rule Book. This suspension takes effects from December 1st, 2021 to November 30th 2022.” It stated.
Alakija, with membership number A.518, is married to Folorunsho Alakija, a fashion designer turned major oil industry player and philanthropist. A lawyer by training, they got married in 1976 and are blessed with four sons – Folarin, Rotimi, Ladi and Dele.
Born on May 5, 1949, the silver-haired businessman and his wife run the multi billion Famfa Oil Ltd, among other companies.
