A fire outbreak occurred on Thursday evening at a filling station in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, following a fuel tanker explosion.
The incident, which happened at about 8 p.m. at Shakkotu along Kiyawa Road, left the scene in chaos as people scrambled for safety.
Several properties, including the filling station itself, were reportedly damaged in the fire.
Eyewitnesses described the explosion as sudden and intense, with flames rapidly spreading across the station.
One witness, Baba Nura, recounted the terrifying moment.
“I was nearby when I heard a loud explosion. I rushed to the scene and saw that the fuel tanker had burst, and the fire surrounded almost everywhere in the filling station.”
His account underscored the severity of the incident and the immediate danger posed to those in the area.
Meanwhile, the Jigawa State Police Command, through its spokesperson SP Shi’isu Adam, confirmed the fire outbreak.
“We immediately rushed to the scene with the fire service men,” he stated. He further assured that no fatalities had been reported as of the time of filing this report.
“For now, there is no report of deaths, but our men are at the moment at the scene of the incident, and details would be released later,” Adam added.
Following the explosion, the area was cordoned off and barricaded to prevent further risks.
All efforts to reach the filling station manager for a statement proved abortive, as repeated visits and phone calls yielded no response.
His whereabouts remained unknown, while staff members declined to comment, citing instructions from their superiors.
