FG Welcomes Deported Nigerians, Assures Support

The Federal Government has assured Nigerians facing deportation from the United States that they are welcome back home, with necessary support in place.

This reassurance came from the Director of Media and Corporate Affairs at the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abdur-Rahman Balogun, during an interview on Tuesday.

He emphasized that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is responsible for handling such developments and that proactive measures have already been established.

“The Federal Government has set up an inter-agency committee, comprising the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, NiDCOM, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, and the Office of the National Security Adviser, NSA, should there be mass deportation of Nigerians from the US,” Balogun stated.

Moreover, he clarified that NiDCOM was not yet aware of Nigerians currently being processed for deportation.

However, this assurance comes amid concerns following reports that about 3,690 Nigerians in the United States could face deportation due to President Donald Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigrants.

Meanwhile, the establishment of the inter-agency committee signals a proactive approach by the Nigerian government to ensure that those returning are properly reintegrated.

Furthermore, this initiative underscores the country’s commitment to supporting its citizens, especially those facing difficult situations abroad.

In addition, the government’s response reflects a clear message that deported Nigerians will not be abandoned but will receive the necessary assistance to start afresh.

For many affected individuals, this development brings a sense of relief, knowing that their country is prepared to welcome them back.

While uncertainties remain regarding how the deportation process will unfold, the assurance from the Federal Government serves as a beacon of hope.

As efforts continue, deported Nigerians can take comfort in the fact that they will not be left without support upon their return.
