A claim that the Federal Government has started paying ₦300,000 to 2:1 graduates has sparked reactions online.
However, the payment should not be seen as an automatic scholarship for everyone who graduated with a Second Class Upper.
A clarification shared by X user Rasheed Afees — RASHAF & C said the payment applies only to selected beneficiaries.
The clarification comes as graduates seek more information about the reported Federal Government ₦300,000 scholarship.
“Just a little clarification, please. The payment isn’t for every graduate who finished with Second Class Upper (2:1) or higher. It is for eligible beneficiaries who were selected under the particular Federal Government scholarship scheme and met its requirements.”
According to the clarification, having a 2:1 degree alone does not guarantee payment.
Beneficiaries must first have been selected under the specific scholarship scheme involved.
They must also meet the conditions set by the programme before receiving the reported funds.
Federal Government scholarship programmes can have different eligibility rules, award amounts and beneficiary categories.
For example, the Federal Ministry of Education’s Nigerian Scholarship Award has previously provided different amounts based on the beneficiary’s level of study.
Therefore, graduates should confirm the exact scholarship scheme before relying on claims about the ₦300,000 payment.
