FEC Approves 600 Four-Bedroom Homes for Armed Forces in Abuja

The Federal Executive Council has approved 600 four-bedroom terrace duplexes for members of the Armed Forces.

The homes are located at Bristow City, Life Camp, Abuja, under the Federal Government’s military housing programme.

The latest approval adds to growing efforts to improve the welfare of Nigerian military personnel through better accommodation.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqha Rabe, disclosed the approval after Wednesday’s FEC meeting.

He said the decision reflects President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to improving living conditions for members of the Armed Forces.

The new homes bring the number of approved military housing units to 2,656.

The government is targeting 10,000 housing units for military personnel over a five-year period.

Rabe explained that housing remains an important part of military welfare.

He also noted that some estates built for military personnel later became barracks because of their facilities.

“Some of these housing estates are converted into barracks,” he said.

The minister explained that some military estates include facilities such as offices and guard rooms.

He added that such features can make the estates operate like traditional barracks.

Rabe also recalled the Federal Government’s wider plan to provide 10,000 homes within five years.

“Before now, there was a policy of the Federal Government that Federal Government over a five-year time will build 10,000 units of housing, and it is a responsibility given to the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development,” he said.

The military housing programme is expected to address accommodation needs while supporting the welfare of serving personnel.

The latest approval also brings the government closer to its 10,000-unit target for the Armed Forces.
