In the early hours of December 31, 2024, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command turned a potential disaster into a moment of relief and celebration after recovering a stolen vehicle along Apo Dutse Road in Abuja.
Around 5:00 AM, operatives of the Scorpion Squad, led by ASP Momoh, flagged down a gray Toyota Corolla with registration number KWL 738 BB after noticing suspicious behavior from the driver.
However, upon being stopped, the driver fled into the nearby bushes, leaving the officers to investigate the vehicle further.
Quick digital checks revealed that the car belonged to Mr. Kaseem Mustapha, who was unaware that his vehicle had been stolen earlier that night.
After confirming the theft, the police promptly contacted him.
Overwhelmed with gratitude, Mr. Mustapha expressed his appreciation, saying, “I can’t believe it! Thank you so much! You’ve turned what could have been a terrible end to my year into the best New Year’s gift I could ever ask for!”
The swift intervention not only ensured the recovery of the vehicle but also showcased the efficiency and dedication of the FCT Police Command.
Meanwhile, FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, praised the officers involved and used the opportunity to urge residents to prioritize vehicle security.
He emphasized the importance of installing security gadgets to prevent theft and aid quick recovery in case of incidents.
“In the unfortunate event of a theft, these devices can significantly assist the police in recovery efforts,” he noted, while encouraging citizens to stay vigilant and proactive about their safety.
The incident serves as a testament to the improved responsiveness of the police force, highlighting their role in promoting safety and community trust.
As Nigerians welcome the New Year, the story of Mr. Mustapha’s recovery reflects a hopeful beginning and a reminder of the importance of cooperation between law enforcement and the public.
Therefore, with the car safely returned and the investigation ongoing, this case stands as an inspiring example of effective policing and timely intervention.
