The driver, Ali Ibrahim, and his assistant,
Alhassan Ibrahim, were apprehended on the spot.

According to FCT Commissioner of Police, Tunji Disu, preliminary investigations revealed that the children were being transported under the guise of receiving training.

The children, who hail from different families in Kano State, were allegedly being taken to Nasarawa State by one Idris Usman, who remains a key suspect in the incident.

“The circumstances and lack of proper documentation or parental consent make this a case of suspected child abuse and trafficking,”

Disu explained during a press briefing on Wednesday.

Disu further added that all the children are currently in custody, along with the vehicle and suspects, while investigations are ongoing for better clarification.

The FCT Social Development Secretariat has been involved to ensure the safe return of the children to their families.

He emphasized the police’s commitment to protecting vulnerable groups, particularly children, as stipulated by the Child’s Rights Act 2003.

“We appeal to parents and guardians to remain vigilant and ensure the safety of their children,” he stated.

This incident serves as a reminder of the dangers children face from exploitative practices when they are not helped.

While the timely intervention of the FCT police prevented a potentially devastating outcome of the situation, it highlights the need for parents to stay cautious and protective for the safety of their children.

The authorities have reiterated their dedication to ensuring justice for the children and bringing all involved to account.
