Authorities in the United States have issued a serious security warning after intelligence suggested a possible drone attack could target California. The Federal Bureau of Investigation raised concerns that Iran may have considered deploying drones from a vessel positioned off the U.S. coastline.
The suspected plan reportedly emerged during rising tensions between the United States and Iran. According to officials, the warning was shared through an internal memo sent to police departments across California.
The memo reportedly stated that intelligence gathered earlier in the year pointed to a potential plan involving unmanned aerial vehicles. Investigators believe Iranian-made drones could have been considered for the operation.
Among the drones mentioned in the report is the Shahed-136, often described as a “kamikaze drone.” These drones are designed to strike targets directly after being launched. However, officials clarified that no specific location in California was identified as a target.
Furthermore, authorities said they currently lack additional details about the timing or individuals involved in the alleged plot. The warning surfaced during a period of heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran.
The situation escalated following recent military strikes carried out by the United States and Israel against Iranian targets. Those operations reportedly led to the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader last month.
Meanwhile, California Governor Gavin Newsom addressed the situation during a press briefing. He described the intelligence warning as “critical” and confirmed that state authorities were monitoring the situation closely.

According to Newsom, officials were already aware of the information before the public announcement. State agencies are now working alongside the State Operations Center to track any potential risk.
However, the governor also said he had not yet spoken directly with President Donald Trump regarding the issue. He urged federal authorities to communicate clearly with the public about potential risks.
Despite the warning from federal agencies, Trump appeared less worried about the possibility of an attack. Speaking with reporters, he said he was not concerned about the risk of Iranian attacks on American soil.
Nevertheless, security agencies continue to monitor developments closely. A threat assessment prepared by the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Intelligence and Analysis suggested that Iranian-linked groups could pose targeted threats.
Meanwhile, tensions in the Middle East have continued to escalate. Several vessels were reportedly attacked near the Strait of Hormuz, a major global shipping route.
One of the ships affected was the Thai-flagged cargo vessel Mayuree Naree. The vessel reportedly suffered a fire in its engine room, forcing crew members to evacuate. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps later claimed responsibility for the attack.
According to the group, the ship had ignored warnings to avoid the strategic waterway. Following the incidents, the United States Central Command issued a warning to civilians.
The advisory urged people to stay away from Iranian port facilities where naval forces are active. Officials explained that such areas could become legitimate military targets during armed conflict. CENTCOM also stated that precautions would continue to be taken to reduce harm to civilians.
