The Emir of Gusau in Zamfara State, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, has passed away at the age of 71, bringing sorrow to the state and beyond.
The highly respected traditional ruler reportedly died on Friday, July 25, in Abuja, after battling a long illness.
The news of his passing has left many in deep pain, especially within the Zamfara traditional community, where he served as a leading voice for peace and unity.
The late Emir had ruled for ten impactful years and was widely admired for his leadership and fatherly wisdom.
Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal expressed profound sadness at the passing of the royal father.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Sulaiman Idis, the governor described the loss as personal and deeply painful.
“I received with profound sadness the news of the passing of our father, His Royal Highness, Dr. Ibrahim Bello, the Emir of Gusau. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Zamfara State Council of Chiefs, the Emir’s family, the Gusau Emirate, and the people of the state,” he said.
The Emir’s death is not only a loss to his emirate but also to the entire Northern region and Nigeria at large.
Governor Lawal added, “His passing is a tremendous loss not just to Zamfara but to Northern Nigeria and the country at large. I have lost a father and a trusted advisor whose wisdom and guidance were invaluable.”
The late monarch was installed as the 16th Emir of Gusau on March 16, 2015, following the passing of his father.
Before ascending the throne, he served in the public sector, rising to the rank of Permanent Secretary in the old Sokoto State and later in Zamfara.
Moreover, his time as Emir was filled with efforts to promote unity, community growth, and youth empowerment.
He was known for staying close to his people and remained accessible throughout his reign.
Governor Lawal praised the Emir’s record of service, saying:
“His 10 years of service as a traditional ruler were marked by unwavering dedication, leadership, and spiritual strength.”
In addition, Governor Lawal prayed for Allah’s mercy and a peaceful resting place for the late monarch.
He said, “May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdaus.”
