Elon Musk Slams Reports About Leaving Government Role as ‘Fake News’

Elon Musk, the renowned founder of Tesla and SpaceX, has strongly rejected reports that he will be leaving his government role soon, labeling them as “fake news.”

These claims, initially circulated by various media outlets, suggested that Musk would transition back to the private sector after his time as an adviser in the Trump administration.

However, Musk was quick to address these rumors, denying them with a simple statement on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Yeah, fake news.”

The confusion began when a senior White House official reportedly told NBC News that during a recent cabinet meeting, former President Donald Trump had discussed Musk’s planned departure from his government role.

The official claimed that Musk, who has been serving as a special government employee, would leave after completing 130 days of service.

This would occur by May 30, which was stated as the deadline for his tenure in the position.

However, the White House press secretary, Karoline Leavitt, swiftly dismissed the claims, labeling them “garbage.”

She emphasized that both Musk and President Trump had publicly stated that Musk would step down from his government role when his work at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was complete.

Leavitt further clarified that Musk would leave once his tasks related to DOGE were finished, adding that the department would eventually be dissolved in July 2026.

Musk’s role in the Trump administration has been a topic of controversy, particularly due to his efforts to downsize the U.S. federal government.

His department, DOGE, has been responsible for recommending massive cuts to federal agencies.

Thousands of government employees have been either laid off or agreed to leave as a result of these measures.

Furthermore, multiple lawsuits have been filed in response to the federal workforce cuts proposed by DOGE, intensifying criticism of Musk’s role in these decisions.

Moreover, Musk’s team members at DOGE have faced disturbing threats.

In a recent statement, Musk revealed that some of his colleagues had been receiving daily death threats, a situation that has drawn widespread concern.

Despite these challenges, Musk has maintained his focus on his work, although his efforts to downsize the federal government have led to significant controversy.

However, Musk’s clear statement on social media aims to put an end to these speculations.

As the conversation around Musk’s work in the Trump administration continues, it’s evident that his actions, particularly in terms of government downsizing, will remain under scrutiny.

His firm dismissal of the claims serves as a reminder for the public to be cautious about believing misleading headlines and rumors.

By addressing the “fake news,” Musk encourages the public to stay informed and avoid jumping to conclusions.
