In a disturbing development that reflects the growing concerns about online crime in Nigeria, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 120 suspected internet fraudsters in Lagos.
The operation, which took place on Monday, May 19, 2025, was carried out by officers from the EFCC Lagos Zonal Directorate 1.
The arrests were made following credible intelligence and surveillance, according to the commission’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale.

He stated that the suspects include 95 males and 25 females who were apprehended in coordinated raids at different locations across the state.
“The suspects are currently undergoing further investigation and will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of the investigation,” Oyewale confirmed in the official statement.
Moreover, the anti-graft agency disclosed that several luxury items were recovered during the operations.

These included 26 exotic vehicles, costly pieces of jewelry, smartphones, laptops, and various incriminating documents linked to fraudulent activities.
The large number of arrests underlines the seriousness of the cybercrime issue in Nigeria.
In addition, with investigations still ongoing, Nigerians will be watching closely to see how the legal process unfolds and whether justice will be served swiftly.
