As political activities gear up ahead of the 2027 general election, Nigerian lawyer and public affairs analyst, Deji Adeyanju, has made a bold statement about the political landscape in the South.
According to him, only former President Goodluck Jonathan has what it takes to defeat President Bola Tinubu in a national election.
Adeyanju made this known on Sunday through a post shared on his verified X account.
The post, which has since sparked serious online debate, suggests that other Southern politicians considering a run for the presidency are simply not strong enough.

In his exact words, Adeyanju wrote,
“The only southern candidate that can defeat Tinubu is GEJ and he will not run against Tinubu. All others are content creators who are entertaining their supporters and Nigerians. This post will make sense to you until after the 2027 election. Tinubu is not Buhari or GEJ.”
While many expected big names to emerge from the Southern region, Adeyanju believes most of them are only fueling media buzz.
President Tinubu, who was elected in 2023, is widely expected to seek re-election.
However, political discussions have already begun on who might stand a real chance of unseating him.

Many eyes are on opposition figures from both the North and South. However, Adeyanju insists that none of the Southern hopefuls has the political weight and nationwide appeal that Jonathan commands.
He believes that without Jonathan on the ballot, Tinubu’s victory in 2027 is almost certain.
Meanwhile, supporters of former President Jonathan have responded with mixed feelings, especially since Jonathan has not declared any intention to run again.
