Deeper Life Church Raises Alarm Over Demolition of Worship Centers in Lagos

Deeper Life Bible Church has voiced deep concern over the demolition of several of its church buildings in Lagos.

The church described the move as targeted and unjust, especially as the affected buildings were primarily places of worship and community service.

According to a statement released by the church’s legal counsel, Nojim Tairu & Co., these actions by state agencies are beginning to look like a deliberate pattern.

“Over the past months, our church has faced an unsettling pattern of interference from certain state agencies,” the statement read.

“This has resulted in harassment, threats of demolition, and restrictions on our places of worship and community centers.”

The affected locations include key Deeper Life churches across Lagos.

These include the Chronicle Yaba Church, which the church says was demolished by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA).

Others mentioned are Olorunishola Church, allegedly brought down by the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), and Lawanson Church, reportedly touched by the Surulere Local Government.

These actions, the church insists, infringe on their basic rights. “These actions not only infringe on the rights of our congregation but also raise serious concerns about religious freedom, property rights, and due process in Lagos State,” the legal team added.

Moreover, the church emphasized that it has always conducted its affairs within the law.

The statement further urged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and relevant authorities to step in and take swift action.

“Deeper Life Bible Church has always abided by the law and promoted peace among all communities,” the statement continued.

“These recent developments, however, necessitate urgent attention to prevent further erosion of public trust and religious harmony.”

In addition, the church is calling for support from fellow religious organizations, civil society groups, and the global Christian community.

“We remain committed to our mission of spiritual growth, humanitarian service, and social development,” the statement said.

“We will not be deterred by these challenges and are prepared to explore all legal avenues to uphold our rights and preserve our sanctuaries.”

Meanwhile, the church remains firm in its commitment to peaceful resolution and dialogue.
