CUPP Slams Tinubu’s Two-Year Leadership as Nigeria’s Worst Since Independence

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has delivered a harsh verdict on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s two-year tenure, calling it the most troubling era in Nigeria’s history since gaining independence in 1960.

In a statement made on Tuesday to mark the president’s second anniversary in office, CUPP’s National Spokesperson, Comrade Mark Adebayo, said Nigerians have experienced deepened suffering across every sector under the current administration.

He painted a grim picture of the country’s current state, accusing Tinubu’s government of increasing hardship, insecurity, and neglect of vital areas like healthcare and education.

“Two years ago, severe hunger came to town in Nigeria through President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Governance, in its most inhumane form, ascended the throne,” Adebayo declared.

“Insecurity worsened, youth unemployment skyrocketed, and the number of out-of-school children rose from 20 million to nearly 40 million. Inflation has surged to over 36%.”

These strong words come as Nigerians reflect on the past two years since President Tinubu took over the reins of power.

Many citizens feel let down, especially in key areas such as job creation and access to quality public services.

Meanwhile, Adebayo also criticized Nigeria’s reduced diplomatic presence, attributing it to inactive foreign missions.

“Our foreign missions remain inactive due to the absence of appointed ambassadors, leaving Nigeria virtually absent on the global diplomatic stage,” he said.

The security situation was another point of concern.

Adebayo noted that Nigerians across different regions face violence and threats daily, even in the capital city.

“People in Benue, Plateau, and other parts of the country are being slaughtered daily by an invading army of terrorists, killer herdsmen, and kidnappers.

Even Abuja, the nation’s capital, is not safe from these predators,” he said.

The country’s health system, according to the CUPP, is in crisis.

Adebayo said public hospitals have deteriorated to a point where they are no longer effective.

“Our medical institutions have collapsed. They are worse than consulting clinics, and the common people bear the brunt.

Meanwhile, the president and his cabinet continue to travel abroad for medical treatment.”

Furthermore, he expressed worry over the growing debt profile.

Adebayo highlighted how the government continues to borrow despite removing the fuel subsidy and saving billions.

“Nigeria’s debt profile has reached scandalous levels, with total debt both domestic and external projected to hit ₦188 trillion by the end of 2025,” he explained.

“Despite the billions of dollars saved through the removal of fuel subsidy on his first day in office, the Tinubu administration continues to seek additional loans, deepening the nation’s economic woes.”

Adebayo further accused President Tinubu of turning his focus to securing a second term rather than addressing the needs of ordinary Nigerians.

He said sectors like education, health, and the economy have been badly hit by the administration’s poor planning.

“Nigerians are already weary of this administration and have lost faith in President Bola Tinubu due to his anti-people economic policies over the past two years,” he said.

“A second term would be catastrophic. Nigerians are actively seeking a credible alternative for 2027 one with the competence, patriotism, compassion, and creativity to rescue the country from its current crisis.”

The CUPP’s review may not have offered praise, but it signals a moment of reflection.

While it raises many concerns, it also presents an opportunity for leadership to do better.
