According to reports, NDLEA operatives had documented their presence at the police station before proceeding with the operation.

However, their efforts to detain the suspect were reportedly obstructed by policemen from the Ekeki Division, resulting in a heated exchange.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing gunshots, which caused panic among residents.

One witness, who was nearby, stated, “I was at the Bayelsa Newspaper Corporation when I heard about six gunshots. Out of curiosity, I went to the Ekeki Police Division and saw a confrontation between the police and NDLEA operatives.”

In the chaotic scene, police officers allegedly fired at two NDLEA vehicles to prevent them from leaving with the suspect.

This act has raised suspicions about possible collusion between the police and the alleged drug dealer.

“People are now suspecting that the police might be providing cover for the woman to continue her drug business in the area,” the eyewitness added.

Reacting to the incident, NDLEA spokesperson Mr. Howells Oba confirmed that their operatives had adhered to protocol by recording the operation at the police station.

“They shot two of our vehicles, and we are working on removing them from the scene,” he stated.

Moreover, Mr. Oba assured that a formal statement would be issued as the agency works to resolve the conflict and ensure order.

Meanwhile, the Bayelsa Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Musa Mohammed, disclosed that he was heading to the scene to investigate.

“I am heading there now to find out what happened,” he said.

The incident has left residents confused and concerned about the potential implications for security in the community.

This confrontation highlights the need for law enforcement agencies to prioritize collaboration to avoid similar incidents.
