A celestial church in Felele Quarters,Lokoja,Kogi State was attacked by gunmen on Sunday evening.
SP William Ovye-Aya of the Police Command in Kogi confirmed the attack on Monday through a distress call.“It was a distress call that the Divisional Police Officer of B Division Felele received that hoodlums invaded a Celestial Church behind NNPC mega station and they began shooting. Two females were confirmed dead in the hospital, while three are receiving treatment.“The Commissioner of Police has deployed our operatives, and ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the investigation, to commence an investigation to unravel the cause of the attack with a view to arresting the perpetrators,” he said
Ovye-Aya added that the gunmen invaded the Celestial Church, “Blood of Jesus Parish,” around 8.00. p.m. on Sunday, and opened fire on worshippers.Eyewitness said that the gunmen who were fully armed stormed the church and started shooting effortlessly.
“Although there is no arrest yet, investigations are on to fish out the perpetrators who would face the full wrath of the law.“Already, the corpses of the victims of the attack have been deposited at the Morgue of the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, where the injured are also being treated,” Ovye-Aya stated.
Ovye-Aya, however, called on the public to remain calm, and peaceful and to also continue their their activities as the Police will bring justice to the case.
The attack was the second as another Church was attacked within the same Felele Quarters of Lokoja after three weeks.
