CAF confirmed in a statement released on Wednesday that its Disciplinary Board met to review incidents from the January 10, 2026 encounter.

Several rulings were reached after what officials described as serious misconduct during and after the game.

The sanctions were announced days after videos of the incident spread widely online.

According to CAF, Algeria goalkeeper Luca Zidane was handed a two-match suspension.

The ban applies to CAF official matches with the national team. Meanwhile, defender Rafik Belghali received a four-match suspension for aggressive behaviour toward the referee after the final whistle. However, two matches were suspended for a one-year probation period.

In addition, CAF imposed a total fine of USD100,000 on the Algerian Football Federation.

The penalties were linked to the conduct of players, officials, and supporters. CAF said the actions brought the game into disrepute and breached several articles of its Disciplinary Code.

A USD5,000 fine was issued after Algeria received five yellow cards. Moreover, a USD25,000 fine followed inappropriate conduct by players and officials at full-time.

CAF also fined Algeria USD5,000 for supporters using smoke devices. Another USD5,000 was added for objects thrown from the stands.

Furthermore, a USD10,000 fine was imposed for failure to follow security measures. Supporters reportedly attempted to force security barriers.

The largest fine of USD50,000 was issued for offensive gestures, including the display of banknotes toward match officials.

CAF stressed that no sanctions were placed on Nigeria.

The Super Eagles advanced despite strong protests from Algerian players and fans.

The anger was linked to disputed goals and an alleged missed penalty decision. However, CAF maintained its stance after reviewing all evidence.

The incident happened immediately after the final whistle. Videos showed players confronting officials, while clashes occurred near the tunnel.

In response, the Algerian Football Federation confirmed plans to appeal the ruling. The body described the sanctions as unfair and excessive.
