Agriculture Ministry Declares Nationwide Prayer and Fasting for Food Security and Protection

Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has called for a ministry-wide prayer and fasting session.

This spiritual initiative seeks divine help for the nation’s protection and food security amid growing concerns in the agricultural sector.

An official circular dated June 11, 2025, signed by the Director of Human Resource Management, Mrs. Adedayo Modupe O., instructed all ministry staff to participate.

Themed “Divine Intervention for Protection and National Development,”the prayer chain will be held across three Mondays June 16, 23, and 30 at the ministry’s Abuja headquarters.

“This is to invite all staff of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to a solemn prayer session for God’s guidance and success in supporting the government’s efforts to achieve food security.

Please kindly come fasting on Mondays 16th, 23rd, and 30th June 2025,” the circular read.

According to the ministry, directors, deputy directors, assistant directors, and value chain desk officers are expected to lead the sessions.

Staff across all departments are also required to attend in a fasting state, marking a collective moment of reflection and intercession.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Modupe explained that the initiative was meant to invoke God’s help for the government’s ongoing food stability plans.

“The prayer session is aimed at invoking God’s guidance and support for the government’s efforts to ensure stable and sustainable food systems across the country,” she stated.

In addition, many believe that addressing issues such as inflation, food insecurity, and climate-related agricultural challenges might require more than policy it may need a spiritual and communal effort.

Furthermore, the event may strengthen morale within the ministry and offer a sense of hope during turbulent times.
