Nollywood filmmaker and producer, Olajide Kareem, aka Seun Egbegbe, has regained his freedom after serving 5 years and eight months jail term with hard labour for alleged fraud for defrauding no less than 40 bureaus de change businesses in Lagos between 2015 and 2017.
Police had charged him with a series of frauds totaling N39,098,100, $90,000, and £12,550.Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo, on February 10, 2017, arraigned Egbegbe and Oyekan Ayomide on 36 charges of advance fee fraud.
But the counts eventually increased to 40 after the charge sheet was amended twice.After reviewing his case again, the Federal High Court in Ikoyi found Egbegbe guilty of just one of the 44 counts charged against him. .Justice Oguntoyinbo therefore threw out 43 of the 44 counts due to lack of witnesses to substantiate their claims
Four other defendants got freed alongside as Justice Oguntoyinbo also ruled that all of the money taken from Egbegbe as evidence should be restored to him.
