DNA Test: Mohbad’s Family Takes Major Step in Long-Running Paternity Dispute

The long-running paternity dispute surrounding late singer Mohbad has reached a major stage. DNA samples have been collected from his remains and his son, Liam, for testing.

The exercise took place in Lagos on Saturday, October 31, under court supervision. It followed an application by Mohbad’s widow, Omowunmi Aloba, seeking a DNA test to establish Liam’s paternity.

The court approved the request and appointed a welfare officer to oversee the process. The Mohbad DNA test is expected to help address questions surrounding the child’s biological father.

Samples were first taken from Mohbad’s remains at Mainland General Hospital, also known as the Infectious Diseases Hospital, in Yaba.

Security personnel later escorted the samples to the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre. Liam’s samples were also collected there for further testing and examination.

According to Punch, the exercise took place under strict court supervision. Security was also strengthened amid concerns about possible public disturbances.

Mohbad’s mother, Abosede, his younger brother, Adura, and his widow, Omowunmi, attended the proceedings. The process reportedly became emotional during the identification of the singer’s remains.

The controversy followed Mohbad’s death on September 12, 2023. Since then, his father, Joseph Aloba, has repeatedly questioned Liam’s paternity.

Joseph has called for a DNA test to establish whether Liam is biologically related to the late singer. His demands have kept the issue in public discussion.

Omowunmi also sought the court’s approval for the test. The court-supervised collection now moves the dispute towards a scientific examination.

The outcome of the forensic examination is expected to provide further clarity on the matter.
