The Federal Government has announced a 30-day petrol discount at NNPC filling stations nationwide.
The move is aimed at easing fuel costs and reducing pressure on Nigerians facing high transport expenses.
Public transport operators will receive priority under the new arrangement, Finance Minister Taiwo Oyedele announced Thursday.
Oyedele disclosed the plan during a press conference in Abuja.
“There’ll be a discount on NNPC petrol for the next 30 days, with priority for public transporters,” the minister said.
The 30-day petrol discount is expected to focus on transport operators who serve millions of commuters daily.
The government said the measure would provide short-term relief as it monitors developments in the petrol market.

Oyedele also announced plans for a negotiated landing cost for petrol.
The figure will be reviewed every month as the government assesses market conditions.
The proposed arrangement could help the government respond to changes affecting petrol supply and pricing.
However, officials have not yet announced the exact discount per litre.
Details about the new pump prices and participating NNPC stations are also yet to be released.
The government has also not explained how public transport operators will be identified.
Further details are expected as the implementation of the 30-day petrol discount begins.
