IGP Disu Orders Flags at Half-Mast for 25 Victims of NAF Crash

A nation continues mourning after a tragic air disaster in Ondo State, the Inspector-General of Police has now joined in honoring the victims.

He has ordered all police commands to fly flags at half-mast; this gesture honors the 25 lives lost in the NAF 931 crash.

Military personnel and other passengers were among those who died, the tragedy has left the country in deep sorrow since the incident occurred.

The Nigeria Police Force confirmed the directive through an official statement, they shared the update publicly on their official X account Tuesday.

According to the police, the gesture reflects solidarity with the Nigerian Air Force, it also shows support for the families mourning their loved ones.

The IGP personally extended sympathy to Air Force leadership and affected families.

“On behalf of the Nigeria Police Force, I extend my deepest condolences to the Chief of the Air Staff, the officers and men of the Nigerian Air Force, and the bereaved families,” he said.

This NAF 931 crash flags half-mast period will run from October 6 to October 8, 2026, all commands, including Force Headquarters in Abuja, will participate.

The IGP explained the reasoning behind this mourning period. He called it a sign of respect and unity among security agencies.

“As a mark of respect for the departed and in solidarity with the Nigerian Air Force, all Nigeria Police Commands and Formations, including Force Headquarters, Abuja will fly flags at half-mast during the three-day mourning period, from 6th to 8th October 2026,” he stated.

He praised the bravery of those who lost their lives in service, and he assured families that their loved ones’ sacrifices would never be forgotten.

“Their courage, service and sacrifice will not be forgotten. We stand with their families and colleagues in this moment of grief,” the IGP added.

The police also offered prayers for strength and comfort during this difficult time.

“May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace, and may God grant their loved ones the strength to bear this painful loss,” the statement read.

Condolences continue pouring in nationwide as Nigerians mourn the heavy loss together.
