A painful tragedy has struck the family of Professor Hadiza Abdullahi Usman, Medical Director of FMC Nguru, Yobe State.
Her twin daughters, Dr Hadiyah Usman Abdullahi and Aidah Usman Abdullahi, died two days apart.
Hadiyah was a medical doctor, while her twin sister Aidah worked as a pharmacist.
The sisters reportedly died following complications linked to sickle cell disease.
Hadiyah died on Friday, October 2, after spending about a week at FMC Nguru.
She had reportedly been receiving treatment after experiencing a sickle cell crisis.
Her twin sister Aidah was receiving treatment at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital during the same period.
Aidah reportedly improved and was discharged from the hospital before her sister died.
Hadiyah was later buried after funeral prayers at the Emir’s Palace on Friday.
Two days later, Aidah reportedly visited her twin sister’s grave after attending the burial.
She reportedly became unconscious shortly after the visit and was taken to a hospital.
Aidah was later confirmed dead, according to the information provided by FMC Nguru.
The Federal Medical Centre, Nguru, confirmed her death in a Facebook post.
The hospital described Aidah as “the second twin” of Professor Usman.
