Senator Shehu Buba Umar has asked Nigeria’s security agencies to investigate allegations linking him to banditry, kidnapping and terrorism financing.
The Bauchi South senator made the move while addressing journalists on Monday.
He denied the claims and challenged anyone with evidence to present it to investigators.
Umar said his legal team had contacted the DSS, Police and Defence Intelligence Agency.
The team is led by former NBA President and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Yakubu Chonoko Maikyau.
The senator described the allegations as politically driven and defamatory.
He said he preferred a formal investigation over claims spreading across social media.
“I categorically and unequivocally deny these allegations. I have never sponsored, financed, armed, facilitated, or supported banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, or any criminal organisation or activities whatsoever,” he said.
Umar urged politicians, activists, journalists and social media users to submit any evidence they claim to possess.
“Do not hide behind social Media. Do not rely on edited videos, insinuations, propaganda, or anonymous allegations. Take whatever evidence you have to the appropriate security agencies and allow the law to take its course,” Umar said.
He also asked security agencies to question those making the accusations and test their claims against credible evidence.
The senator said he was ready to cooperate with investigators, the military and other relevant bodies.
He further said he would accept prosecution if investigators established a case against him.
Umar linked the allegations to his former role as Senate Committee Chairman on National Security and Intelligence.
He said that position involved regular contact with security agencies over national threats.
According to him, some legitimate engagements may have been wrongly presented as links to criminal groups.
Umar said he wants evidence tested through due process rather than social media debate.
“My position is simple: let every allegation be subjected to impartial scrutiny, let every piece of evidence be examined, and let the truth prevail,” he said.
