Nigeria’s top police officer is taking welfare seriously, the Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has toured 23 police barracks across the country.
His mission was simple but important, he wanted to see how officers and their families really live.
This IGP police barracks inspection aimed to check living conditions firsthand, Disu spoke directly with officers during each visit.
He listened to their concerns about housing and facilities while, the goal was to spot gaps needing urgent attention.
Force spokesman Ani Iniedu confirmed the exercise in a statement on Sunday, he said it would guide future welfare decisions.
According to the statement, decent housing plays a big role in officer morale, Disu believes better conditions lead to better performance on duty.
He didn’t hold back on his stance about officer welfare. “Personnel who dedicate themselves to the protection of lives and property deserve decent and conducive living conditions,” he said.
This IGP police barracks inspection ties into a larger reform plan for the force, Disu wants a police force that is motivated and professional.
He explained why welfare matters so much to him. Better living conditions help build “a motivated, professional and effective Police Force,” he said.
The police say this hands-on approach helps them prioritize real needs. Direct inspections give leadership an accurate picture of each barracks.
Findings from the tour will shape future welfare support, authorities hope this leads to real upgrades for officers and their families.
The force reaffirmed its promise to keep improving conditions for personnel. Officers, they say, deserve support as they protect lives and property daily.
