Relief has come for business owners hit by the Calabar mall fire. President Tinubu has approved major financial support for them.
Eighteen affected traders will each receive N25 million. This brings the total support to N450 million for the group alone.
First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu announced the news on Friday. She spoke during an event in Cross River State.
This SPAR Mall fire compensation is meant to ease the pain of loss, many business owners lost everything in the August 22 blaze.
The fire tore through the popular Calabar shopping mall. It destroyed goods and property worth billions of naira.
Senator Tinubu didn’t stop at the traders alone. She also gave N50 million to support women’s groups in the state.
An extra N15 million went to women who welcomed her during the visit. This pushed the total federal intervention to N515 million.
“Mr President commiserates with the government and people of Cross River over this unfortunate incident that destroyed many businesses and livelihoods,” she said.
She explained the goal behind the gesture. “This intervention is to provide immediate support and help victims recover from their losses,” Senator Tinubu said.
This SPAR Mall fire compensation aims to help traders rebuild fast. Many had been left with nothing after the disaster.
Governor Bassey Otu welcomed the First Lady and thanked the federal government. He called the gesture timely and meaningful for his state.
The governor believes the funds will help businesses recover. He said affected traders can now begin rebuilding their livelihoods.
