President Tinubu Approves New Road Projects Linking Key Nigerian States

The Federal Government has approved fresh road projects worth billions of naira across several states.

The approvals cover key roads in Ekiti, Ogun and Rivers states. They also include new concession deals for roads and a trailer park.

Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, announced the decisions after the Federal Executive Council meeting in Abuja.

President Bola Tinubu chaired the meeting.

In Ekiti State, the government approved N159.83 billion for the reconstruction of the Ado-Ekiti-Iyin-Aramoko-Itawure-Osun border road.

Another N54.52 billion was approved for Phase II rehabilitation of the Ado-Ekiti-Afe Babalola University Road.

Ogun State also received major road investments under the new approvals. The government approved N54.12 billion for additional work on the Abeokuta-Iboro-Ilaro Road.

It also approved N94.24 billion for Phases II-V of the Ilaro-Iselu Road. The project is expected to take 24 months to complete.

In Rivers State, the government approved N74.51 billion for a 15-kilometre section of the East-West Road.

The section runs from Port Harcourt-Eleme Junction to Onne Port Junction. The government expects the project to be completed within nine months.

The Federal Government also approved several projects under public-private partnership arrangements.

These include a N56.75 billion development of the Dikko-Maje section of the Suleja-Minna Road in Niger State.

The project will operate under a 40-year concession. The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway also received approval for operation and maintenance. The concession is valued at N96.43 billion for 25 years.

In Abia State, the government approved N19.70 billion for a new trailer park at Aro-Ngwa.

The project will operate under a 50-year concession.

The N554bn road projects and related concessions form part of the government’s wider effort to improve road infrastructure and transport networks across Nigeria.
