Former Minister of Finance Kemi Adeosun has opened up about the plans she shared with her late husband, Adeniyi Adeosun. The former minister revealed that the couple had planned to travel every three months and enjoy their money together.
She made the emotional revelation on Thursday during her husband’s funeral service.
Adeniyi died on August 5 at the age of 62, leaving his family and friends mourning his sudden passing. During her tribute, Adeosun recalled a meeting between the couple where they decided to make more time for themselves.
“This year would have been 33 years of our wedding anniversary. We had a meeting, two of us, and we said now every three months, we’re just going to be travelling, we spend all the money,” Adeosun said.
The former minister said they had spent years being careful with their finances.
She explained that they eventually felt it was time to enjoy the rewards of their hard work.
“We’ve been so sensible that it’s time for us to enjoy ourselves,” she said.
Adeosun also spoke about the shock of losing her husband, describing the moment as difficult to accept.
“I’m heartbroken, I’ve found it difficult to believe that this actually happened. But at the same time, I’m very thankful.”
She said her husband had not been ill before his death and had simply gone to sleep.
“On Friday, I went to the mortuary and when I saw him, he had the biggest smile on his face. He wasn’t sick. He simply went to sleep and didn’t wake up… that’s the way I’d like to go,” she said.
She described Adeniyi as a “mischievous human being” and remembered one funny incident during a trip to the United States.
According to Adeosun, her husband once pretended to need assistance to avoid a long immigration queue. She recalled how Adeniyi “declared himself disabled and got a wheelchair” during the trip.
“The kind of things that were coming to his head. That’s Niyi for you,” she said.
Adeosun expressed gratitude to God for their marriage, children, family and friends. She also said their home was filled with laughter because of her husband’s personality.
“He’s going to be very much missed by everybody that knew him,” she said.
