Abuja Eyes Africa’s Tallest Tower in Ambitious N2.4tn Smart City Project

Abuja is set for a major transformation with plans for a 450-metre landmark tower. The tower is expected to become Africa’s tallest building when completed.

The project forms part of the N2.4 trillion Abuja City Walk smart city development. It is designed to combine business, tourism, housing and entertainment in one major district.

The planned tower will rise along Airport Road within a 250-hectare mixed-use development. International architecture firm Benoy is responsible for the master plan.

Beyond the tower, the project will feature an international arena with more than 16,000 seats.

Both landmarks are expected to become key attractions within the new gateway district.

The development will also include hotels, offices, homes and retail spaces. Cultural centres, educational facilities and healthcare services are also planned.

Furthermore, the site sits within a Free Trade Zone. This status is expected to make the area more attractive to foreign investors and international businesses.

Developers say the location could support companies seeking regional headquarters in West Africa. It could therefore strengthen Abuja’s position as a destination for business and investment. Phase One of the project is already underway. The first stage is expected to provide about 245,000 square metres of built space.

Link Developments has appointed Broadgate Developments Group Ltd as its Development and Construction Management Advisor. The company will help oversee the delivery of the project.

If completed as planned, the tower could become a striking feature of Abuja’s skyline. It would also represent Nigeria’s growing ambitions in modern urban development.
