Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat has ordered a tougher response to alleged criminal activities along the Lekki-Epe Expressway. The move follows growing concerns about people stopping luxury vehicles along the busy road.
Hamzat made the disclosure during an interview on Nigeria Info FM. He responded after presenter Jimi Disu raised concerns about people stopping expensive cars around the Lekki-Epe axis.
The deputy governor described the activity as criminal and promised firm action against those involved. He also said authorities would not allow the situation to continue.
“That is criminal. And therefore, we will not allow it. So, we will take a lot of them off the street,” Hamzat said.
Hamzat also disclosed that several suspects had already been arrested. According to him, surveillance cameras installed along the road have helped security officials identify some of those involved.
“Well, a lot of people have been arrested, really. If you commit… a lot of cameras are also on that road and people have been seen. And I can show you people, some people are in the Magistrate Court today,” Hamzat added.
He confirmed that some arrests were made recently. The deputy governor said the suspects were taken into custody around the weekend.
The development signals a stronger government response to complaints from motorists and residents using the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
Meanwhile, authorities are expected to continue monitoring the area through surveillance systems.
