The Rivers State Police Command has stepped up security operations along the boundary with Akwa Ibom State in a renewed effort to tackle crime through stronger interstate collaboration.
The latest security move comes as the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, intensified operational monitoring of officers deployed along the Ogoni Road corridor leading to the Rivers-Akwa Ibom boundary.
The development has also highlighted growing cooperation between neighbouring police commands. Meanwhile, police authorities say the strategy will remain a continuous exercise to improve public safety and strengthen confidence among residents and commuters.
The Rivers-Akwa Ibom border security operation received an additional boost as CP Olugbenga Adepoju met with the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Mohammed Baba Azare, at the interstate boundary.
Furthermore, both police commissioners reaffirmed their commitment to working together against criminal activities that often extend beyond state borders.
The joint appearance sent a strong message that security agencies are determined to improve intelligence sharing and strengthen coordinated operations.
According to the Rivers State Police Command, the operational inspection focused on monitoring officers deployed along strategic routes linking both states.
Moreover, the exercise was aimed at ensuring that personnel remain disciplined, visible and fully prepared to respond to security challenges.
CP Adepoju explained that regular supervision would continue to improve operational effectiveness across the command.
“Monitoring and supervision of personnel would be a continuous exercise aimed at ensuring maximum operational efficiency, discipline, and visibility policing.”

He further noted that the ongoing security initiative is intended to make it difficult for criminal groups to operate freely within Rivers and Akwa Ibom States.
In addition, the Commissioner stressed that stronger police presence would improve public confidence while making major roads safer for residents and travellers.
The Rivers State Police Command also appealed to members of the public to support security efforts by sharing useful information with law enforcement agencies.
According to the Commissioner, timely reports from residents remain essential to preventing crime before it occurs.
He urged members of the public to remain alert and report suspicious individuals, unusual movements and criminal activities to the police.
Furthermore, the command assured residents that proactive policing remains one of its highest priorities.
The Commissioner also reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property through closer cooperation with neighbouring police formations.
Joint patrols, intelligence sharing and coordinated operations are often considered effective tools in addressing organised criminal activities.
Although criminal activities continue to evolve, authorities believe continuous operational monitoring will strengthen response capabilities and improve law enforcement effectiveness.
As security operations continue, residents have been encouraged to remain vigilant and cooperate with officers by providing credible and timely information.
