Global attention has shifted to Russia as President Vladimir Putin backs a bold scientific project that could reshape how people age.
A Russia anti-aging vaccine initiative is now being strongly funded. The plan has been included in a massive national health budget, reportedly worth over 2 trillion rubles.
Moreover, the project is being driven by concerns over Russia’s declining population.
According to officials, scientists are working on a form of gene therapy. This approach targets the RAGE receptor, which is linked to the aging process in human cells.
Deputy Minister of Science Denis Sekirinsky explained the idea during a recent conference.
He said the aim is to create “the world’s first gene therapy drug” focused on this process.
However, this research is still in early stages. Tests have mainly been done in laboratories and on animals. Human trials have not yet been carried out.

In addition, Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova confirmed a possible timeline. She stated that production could begin between 2028 and 2030.
The idea of slowing aging is not unique to Russia. The United States and other countries are also investing in similar research.
Putin’s personal interest in longevity has also been widely discussed. At 73, he is known for maintaining a strict lifestyle. Reports suggest he follows a controlled diet, exercises daily, and stays physically active.
During a past meeting with China’s President Xi Jinping, aging was openly discussed. Putin said, “With the development of biotechnology, human organs can be continuously transplanted, and people can live younger and younger, and even achieve immortality.” In response, Xi’s interpreter added, “Predictions are, this century, there’s a chance of also living to 150.”
