Late President Buhari’s Son Yusuf Joins 2027 Election Race for Reps Seat

Yusuf Buhari, the only son of late President Muhammadu Buhari, has declared his intention to join the 2027 elections.

The decision was revealed by former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad, who shared the update on social media. According to him, consultations had been held before the move was made public.

“Following wide consultations, Yusuf Buhari, the son of our late boss, President Muhammadu Buhari, has informed stakeholders of his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Sandamu/Daura/Mai’Adua constituency under the All Progressives Congress.’’

This development marks Yusuf Buhari’s first known step into active politics. Moreover, it signals a possible continuation of the Buhari political legacy in northern Nigeria.

His father served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023. He remained a key political figure until his passing on July 13, 2025.

However, Yusuf Buhari has largely maintained a low public profile over the years. Therefore, his sudden political ambition has been described as both unexpected and significant.

Meanwhile, political stakeholders in Katsina State are said to be reacting to the announcement. The Sandamu, Daura, and Mai’Adua constituency is known to be politically active. It is also considered a stronghold of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Furthermore, the role of young politicians in Nigeria continues to gain attention. Yusuf Buhari’s move may encourage more youth participation in governance.
