A suspected kidnapper has been arrested in Rivers State after a dramatic police operation disrupted an attempted abduction in Port Harcourt.
The incident unfolded in the early hours of March 20, when armed men reportedly stormed a residence in the Government Reserved Area. However, the victim narrowly escaped, triggering a swift response from security operatives.
Moreover, the operation quickly escalated after a crucial clue was discovered at the scene, leading to a chain of events that exposed the gang’s hideout.
According to police sources, the attackers invaded a home along Orogbum Crescent, Woji Road, attempting to abduct a 35-year-old resident. During the attack, gunshots were fired, creating panic in the area.
However, the victim managed to escape unharmed, a development described as both lucky and critical. Consequently, security operatives were alerted, and a rapid investigation was launched.
Meanwhile, a mobile phone believed to belong to one of the suspects was recovered at the scene.
Using technical intelligence, operatives tracked the device, leading to the arrest of a suspect identified as Joseph Abibo.
Following the arrest, the suspect reportedly provided vital information that guided officers to the gang’s hideout. However, upon arrival, police operatives were met with heavy gunfire.

A fierce gun duel was said to have occurred, during which several suspects fled the scene. In addition, police confirmed that about six gang members escaped with gunshot wounds, disappearing into a nearby river.
Despite the escape, a significant cache of weapons was recovered. These include two AK-47 rifles, four magazines, and 108 rounds of live ammunition.
The Rivers State police operation has been described as part of broader efforts to tackle violent crime in the region.
Furthermore, a coordinated manhunt has been launched to track down the fleeing suspects.
Residents have also been encouraged to cooperate with law enforcement by providing timely and credible information.
In addition, the Rivers State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property.
