A fresh copyright controversy has shaken Nigeria’s music scene after veteran singer Beautiful Nubia accused two fellow artists of copying his work.
In a post shared on X, the respected folk musician alleged that Yinka Ayefele and rising artiste BBO used the melody of his original song, “Seven Lifes,” without proper credit.
The Beautiful Nubia copyright allegation has drawn attention because it involves well-known names in the gospel and inspirational music space.
According to Beautiful Nubia, Ayefele’s 2012 track “My Faith in God (Igbagbo Ireti)” and BBO’s recent release “Amin” both drew directly from his melody.

He expressed concern that artists, especially those in gospel music, still struggle with respecting copyright laws.
He stated that it is troubling that Nigerian musicians fail to uphold originality and proper acknowledgment.
Copyright infringement cases have been debated globally, especially in the music industry. Therefore, this situation highlights the need for clearer structures that protect artists while encouraging creativity.

Although neither Yinka Ayefele nor BBO has issued an official response at the time of writing, the conversation continues to grow.
