TCN Announces Two-Day Power Maintenance in Niger State

The Transmission Company of Nigeria has announced a scheduled maintenance exercise at its Zungeru Transmission Substation in Niger State.

The notice has drawn attention because of its timing and potential impact on electricity supply. Moreover, residents and businesses have been advised to prepare ahead of the exercise.

According to officials, the TCN Zungeru substation maintenance will take place on February 18 and 19, 2026. The work is scheduled between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on both days.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, confirmed the development. She explained that critical equipment at the facility will be serviced during the period.

The maintenance will involve a 150MVA 330/132/33kV transformer. In addition, work will be carried out on a 5.5MVA 33/11kV transformer and related switchgears.

However, the company assured customers that electricity supply will largely remain stable.

Loads are expected to be transferred to a second 150MVA transformer within the same substation.

Customers under the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company and Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company are expected to maintain supply.

This applies particularly to those not directly linked to the transformer under maintenance.

Nevertheless, brief outages may be experienced in some locations. Residents in Kontagora, Tegina, Yauri, and nearby communities have been mentioned as likely to notice short disruptions.

Mbah stated that the exercise forms part of routine operational checks. The goal, she noted, is to ensure long-term efficiency and reliable performance of equipment at the substation.

The TCN Zungeru substation maintenance is aimed at preventing unexpected system failures. Furthermore, proactive servicing is often considered essential for grid stability.
