He takes over from AIG Margaret Ochalla, who is currently away on a short-term professional training programme in the United States.

However, the transition has been described as smooth, with no disruption to ongoing operations.

The appointment places AIG Disu at the centre of high-profile criminal investigations in Lagos and beyond. Moreover, it comes at a time when public confidence in law enforcement accountability remains under intense scrutiny. Therefore, expectations are high for immediate impact.

A Lagos State native, AIG Disu brings more than 30 years of policing experience to the role. He joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 and has served across operational, investigative, and strategic units nationwide.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Education from Lagos State University. Furthermore, he earned multiple Master’s degrees in Public Administration and Criminology, Security and Legal Psychology. He also possesses an Advanced Diploma in Forensic Investigation, strengthening his investigative profile.

Over the years, his leadership has been tested in demanding roles. He previously served as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos. Meanwhile, he also headed the Intelligence Response Team and later became Commissioner of Police in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory. Before this appointment, he was AIG in charge of the Special Protection Unit.

Notably, his tenure at the Rapid Response Squad between 2015 and 2021 was widely praised.

The unit recorded major gains in urban crime control, earning national and regional recognition.

Speaking after assuming duty, AIG Disu expressed appreciation to the police leadership. He said he was “excited to be in Lagos” and grateful for the trust placed in him.

“I appreciate the IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, for counting me worthy of this opportunity to serve in this capacity,” he said.

He pledged a zero-tolerance stance on corruption. Moreover, he promised to strengthen investigative capacity at the FCID Annex.

He also called for cooperation from stakeholders, sister agencies, and the public to support justice delivery.
