Former Newcastle United winger Allan Saint-Maximin has left Mexican club Club America by mutual consent, following disturbing claims that his children were targets of racist abuse.
The French winger, who joined Club America in August, confirmed earlier this week that his family had been subjected to abuse.
The revelation, therefore, sparked widespread reaction online and within football circles. Many supporters described the situation as, especially given his recent move and growing role at the club.
In an emotional Instagram post, Saint-Maximin addressed the issue directly, saying: “The problem isn’t skin colour, it’s the colour of people’s thoughts.” He explained that while he has learned to deal with personal attacks, his children are off limits.
According to him, protecting them remains his highest responsibility.
He added: “I’m not bothered by attacks. I’ve grown up, I’ve learned to fight back against attacks, whether they’re subtle, hidden, or overt. But there’s one thing I will never tolerate: attacks on my children.”
Moreover, Saint-Maximin stressed his resolve to defend his family at all costs. “Protecting my children is my priority, and I will fight with all my might to ensure they are respected and loved, regardless of their background or skin colour,” he said. He also stated clearly that hate and discrimination should not exist in modern society.
The winger continued with a strong warning, saying: “So, to those who dared to attack my children, I say this: you made a mistake.”
He concluded by declaring that no threat scares him except God.
Following the controversy, Club America announced his departure and publicly backed the player. In a statement, the club said: “We reiterate our strong condemnation of any act of discrimination and/or violence that violates human dignity.” The club also expressed full support for Saint-Maximin and his family.
In addition, head coach André Jardine described the exit as unfortunate. “Regarding Maximin, he’s a fantastic player, he has the ability to play in any league in the world,” he said, while wishing him success.
Saint-Maximin made 15 appearances for the club, scoring three goals and providing two assists. However, the Allan Saint-Maximin racist abuse allegations now overshadow his time in Mexico. Meanwhile, discussions around player safety and family protection continue to grow.
