Nigerian-British former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has spoken from his hospital bed after surviving a tragic accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State, Nigeria.
The accident claimed the lives of two of his associates.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu revealed that he personally called Joshua to express his condolences and check on his health.
According to a statement by the President’s spokesperson, Tinubu said, “I spoke with AJ on the phone to personally convey my condolences over the death of his two associates.
I wished him well and prayed for him. He assured me that he is receiving the best care in the hospital.”
In addition, the President also called Joshua’s mother to offer comfort and prayers. She expressed appreciation for the gesture.
Tinubu further spoke with Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, who was present at the hospital with Joshua.
The Governor reassured the President that everything possible would be done to ensure the boxer receives the best medical care.

Moreover, Tinubu had earlier expressed his sympathy on X, saying, “I sympathise with you and your family as you bear the emotional weight of this unfortunate incident. As a sportsman, you have always shown courage, discipline, and unwavering love for our country.
These are qualities that have made you a source of national pride.”
He added, “In moments like this, we must encourage one another as brothers and sisters with a shared destiny. I pray for strength, wisdom, and grace for you during this painful period. May God grant you a speedy recovery and repose to the souls of the departed.”
Meanwhile, the Ogun State Government confirmed the incident and provided updates on Joshua’s condition.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident to prevent future occurrences.
Anthony Joshua remains stable and under close medical supervision, while condolences continue to pour in from fans, officials, and the global sports community.
