American rapper Lil Nas X is facing serious legal trouble after being arrested in Los Angeles for allegedly assaulting a police officer.
The 26-year-old, best known for his global hit Old Town Road, will remain behind bars throughout the weekend.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), Lil Nas X was taken into custody on Thursday morning under Penal Code 69 (a) PC, which covers the use of force or violence to resist or obstruct an officer.
Police confirmed he cannot be released on citation and must appear before a judge on Monday before bail is considered.
“Given the seriousness of the charge, the suspect is required to remain in custody until his court appearance,” an LAPD spokesperson said.
The incident began on Ventura Boulevard, where witnesses reported seeing the rapper acting erratically.
He was reportedly walking in the street wearing only underwear and cowboy boots, striking poses, and singing about an alleged party.
When officers arrived, the situation escalated. Police allege that Lil Nas X charged at them, leading to his restraint.
He was then transported to the hospital for a possible overdose before being formally booked for battery on a police officer.
While legal experts have noted the seriousness of the charges, concerns are also mounting about the rapper’s health and state of mind.
“His family is deeply worried and is considering stepping in to get him help,” a report noted.
