The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended four of its members following an alleged plot to remove Speaker Aondona Dajoh.
The lawmakers affected are Alfred Berger (Makurdi North), Terna Shimawua (Kian), Cyril Ekong (Obi), and James Umoru (Apa).
They were accused of spearheading a failed attempt to impeach the Speaker in what has now escalated into a major political shake-up within the Assembly.
Confirming the decision, the Assembly’s leadership announced that the lawmakers will remain suspended for the next three months.
During this period, they are barred from participating in legislative activities, committee work, and other official duties.
According to the leadership, the suspension was necessary to maintain discipline and internal order.

The move, they explained, followed Thursday night’s botched impeachment attempt which posed a direct threat to the stability of the legislature.
“The action of these members amounts to an affront to the leadership of the House and cannot be overlooked,” the Assembly noted during plenary.
Meanwhile, the suspension has triggered political tension in Benue, with observers warning that the move may deepen existing divisions in the legislature.
In addition to the disciplinary measures, the Assembly immediately adjusted its leadership structure.
Kennedy Angbo was appointed as the new Deputy Majority Leader, Douglas Akya emerged as Deputy Chief Whip, while Elias Audu was named the new spokesman of the House.
This reshuffle, according to insiders, was aimed at strengthening the control of the Speaker and ensuring stability as the House navigates the unfolding crisis.
Despite the turmoil, the Assembly also commenced the screening of commissioner nominees presented by the state governor.
Five nominees were screened on Friday, while two others Ogwu Odeh and Imojime Tiza are expected to appear before the House at a later date.
