Controversy has erupted online following a post by Nigerian disc jockey and activist, DJ Switch, in reaction to the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The former leader passed away in London on Sunday, July 13, 2025.
Shortly after the news broke, DJ Switch took to her Instagram story with a cryptic but harsh message:
“The sweet reality of inevitability. RIP MF. One down.”
The backlash was swift and intense. Social media users flooded platforms like X and Instagram, condemning the DJ’s tone and calling her out for mocking the dead.
However, DJ Switch did not back down from her stance.
In a follow-up video, she responded to the criticism with even sharper words.

She questioned why Nigerians were showing sympathy for someone she believes left the country worse than he met it.
“Please tell me what is Buhari’s achievement apart from destroying Nigeria. When you are a bad leader, people will drink to your demise, but when you lead with fairness, people will mourn when you die,” she stated.
While some agreed with DJ Switch’s views, others saw her statements as unpatriotic and lacking human feeling.
Moreover, she added, “I don’t need to prove my empathy to anybody. When I saw that news, it was like justice. Next on the list, T-Pain, how far?”
The statement raised further eyebrows, leaving many questioning the intent behind her words.
DJ Switch rose to prominence in 2020 during the #EndSARS protests after she livestreamed events from the Lekki Toll Gate.
Since then, she has continued to use her platform to speak against injustice and poor governance in Nigeria.
Her outspokenness has earned her both praise and criticism.
Meanwhile, this latest controversy has reignited conversations about freedom of expression and how far is too far.
While some argue she has a right to speak her mind, others insist that certain lines should not be crossed, especially when it concerns the dead.
Though DJ Switch’s remarks were not illegal, many believe they were unnecessary and poorly timed.
