A multiple-vehicle crash occurred early Friday morning at Kara Bridge inward OPIC on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, causing heavy traffic and highlighting the need for continuous road safety monitoring.
The incident, which happened around 7:40 a.m., was confirmed by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) through a post shared on its official X handle, @followlastma.
“We recorded an accident on Kara Bridge inward Opic on Lagos Ibadan Express Way with multiple vehicles,” the post read.
Emergency responders, including LASTMA officials, were quickly deployed to the scene to attend to the victims and clear the damaged vehicles.
“LASTMA personnel and other Emergency responders have swung into action to rescue the victims and also clear the affected vehicles,” the agency added.
Due to the crash, traffic became heavily backed up, extending to the Otedola Bridge area, creating a slow-moving situation for commuters during the busy morning hours.
“The incident has dragged traffic backwards Otedola bridge,” LASTMA stated.
Meanwhile, motorists were urged to remain patient as the response teams carried out rescue and clearing operations.
The agency emphasized that cooperation from drivers was essential in preventing further delay and confusion on the route.
“Patience is required from the road users,” the agency advised.
However as of the time of this report, no official casualty figures had been confirmed, and rescue efforts were still ongoing.
