Court Strikes Out Falana’s N1bn Defamation Suit Against VDM

VeryDarkMan Clears Air on Obi Cubana Party Rumors, Denies Deportation ClaimsPopular Instagram activist Martins Otse, widely known as Verydarkman (VDM), has been cleared of a defamation case filed by renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) and his son, popular entertainer Falz.

The lawsuit, which demanded N500 million each in damages, was linked to VDM’s reaction to a viral audio reportedly made by controversial figure Bobrisky.

In the recording, Femi Falana and Falz were accused of obstructing justice a claim VDM later discussed in a video shared across his social media pages.

However, during a court session held on Tuesday at the Ikeja High Court, the case was dismissed.

VDM’s legal team, led by Niyi Alagbe on behalf of Marvin Omorogbe, informed Justice Matthias Dawodu that an application seeking a stay of proceedings had been submitted to Justice Fimisola Azeez.

In response, the Falana’s lawyer, Omotayo Olatunbosun, acknowledged receiving the application just a day earlier.

He argued that the new filing was a tactic meant to slow down the trial process.

He further pressed for the court to proceed with the previously scheduled preliminary objection hearing.

Justice Dawodu, however, expressed concern over jurisdiction, as he questioned why he was handling a matter already before another judge.

He revealed that the stay of proceedings application was not in the court’s file and saw no need to proceed under the circumstances.

“This matter is hereby struck out,” the judge ruled, signaling a clear end to the defamation case at his level.

The dismissal helps reduce tension around the viral recording, and may serve as a warning against relying heavily on unverified online materials.
