A powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar on March 28, sending shockwaves across Thailand and China and triggering widespread panic.

In Bangkok, Thailand, the tremors were so strong that a high-rise building collapsed, leading to scenes of chaos.

Witnesses reported water sloshing out of pools in high-rise apartments, while terrified residents evacuated their buildings.

A construction site in Chatuchak, Bangkok, was also impacted.

A viral video captured the moment the site crumbled, sending a cloud of dust into the air as workers ran for safety.

Meanwhile, a tourist on Bangkok’s skytrain at the time shared his experience on X (formerly Twitter), writing:

“Not sure what’s happening in Bangkok right now; I was on the BTS when it started shaking like an earthquake at a stop, and we all got off to see this in the distance. Past Chatuchak Park from the Mo Chit @BTS_SkyTrain station… now looking like ashes are falling.”

In Myanmar, significant structural damage was also reported.

A video from Mandalay showed the historic Ava Bridge collapsing into the water, while another clip depicted residents panicking as a residential building toppled sideways.

Although no immediate casualties have been confirmed, videos of falling structures and evacuations have raised concerns about the full extent of the destruction.

Thailand’s Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra immediately called an emergency meeting to assess the quake’s impact.

The country’s Department of Disaster Prevention reported that the earthquake was felt in almost all regions, underlining the widespread impact.

Authorities in Myanmar and Thailand are now assessing the damage and possible casualties.

Meanwhile, emergency response teams have been mobilized to ensure the safety of those affected.
